LEETONIA — Water customers are likely to see rate increases in the new year.
The water committee last week, acting as council as a whole, asked village solicitor Walter Newton to draw up legislation to increase water rates corresponding with the impending increases from Salem, which supplies the village with water.
Mayor Kevin Siembida and Village Administrator Gary Phillips presented a rate plan showing a 72 cent increase for the minimum usage (1,000 gallons). The new rate is scheduled to be $3.77 for the first 1,000 gallons and is slated to increase by 30 cents annually through 2021. There will also be a $1 monthly surcharge that will go toward capital improvement, which will help pay for the upcoming water meter replacement project.
