The Mothers Of Lovely Lane, is the third in a series based on her memories of growing up in Liverpool. She has three daughters.
How would you describe your style? When
I’m at home I’m always in jeans and a T-shirt. I’m wearing much plainer things nowadays but I sometimes like to offset that with a bit of bling.
What colours and shapes suit you best?
I love wearing all black in the winter and I’ve just discovered I suit pale blue. Reds and corals work well on TV. Because I’m only 5ft 3ins tall, I can only wear fitted clothes. Loose-fitting, floaty clothes make me look frumpy, fatter and smaller.
Tell us about your latest novel… All my books are rooted in the background I grew up in, working-class Liverpool, where women and mothers played a very important part. This book is about a catastrophe and how mothers save the day. The ending made me cry writing it, so I hope it makes readers cry, too.
Do you have to do much research for your books? Not really, because I grew up through those times. I’ve got a lot of material. I grew up with some big characters and great people with great family values.
