OnePlus 5 looks set to be one of the biggest smartphones of the year.
The new flagship smartphone will purportedly include a 5.5inch 2K display, a top-of-the-range 2.3GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, and 8GB of RAM.
And the latest report around OnePlus’ latest handset suggests the phone will ship with a feature that the Samsung Galaxy S8 was missing – a dual camera.
According to a series of rough sketches that originated in China and were published by Android Pure, OnePlus 5 will include a dual camera set-up akin to the one that ships on the iPhone 7 Plus, Huawei P10 and LG G6.
It’s unclear how OnePlus will use these dual cameras.
For example, Apple uses the dual set-up to create a two-times optical zoom, as well as bokeh-style depth effect. LG uses the two lens to offer a fish-eye wide-angle view.
Samsung was purportedly looking into a similar set-up for the Galaxy S8, but dropped the technology ahead of its release date.
Images of a prototype Galaxy S8 handset, surfaced via SamMobile, has revealed the impressive dual-lens primary camera that almost shipped with the flagship smartphone.
Instead of the 12-megapixel, single lens snapper than actually wound up on the phone, the leak has shown Samsung considered echoing the iPhone 7 Plus and moving to a dual-lens camera configuration.
Interestingly, the OnePlus 5 sketches reveal that the plucky Chinese startup might not be satisfied with one dual-camera set-up.
According to the images, OnePlus might also introduce a dual camera rig at the front of the phone as well.
The sketches also show a 0.5mm ceramic layer around the rear camera module, as well as a 3.5mm headphone port and a hardware notification toggle on the side.
Earlier this month, SlashLeaks published the purported OnePlus 5 specs sheet in its entirety.
If the leaked details are accurate, the latest flagship phone from OnePlus will boast a 4,000 mAh battery. For comparison, Samsung Galaxy S8 has a 3,000 mAh battery cell, and the Galaxy S8+ 3,500 mAh.
