David Hurley set a personal best in the discus (151-04) and also won the shot put (44-10) in helping the Shadow Hills Knights to a 72-55 victory over Xavier Prep in a Desert Valley League boys track win.
Isaiah Gonzalez won the 1600 (4:39) and 3200 (10:46), and Alvaro Aceves won the 110 hurdles (16.51) and 300 hurdles (42.71) for Shadow Hills.
Alejandro Grant (800, 2:09), Matthew Kelsey (400, 53.79), and Hunter Rodriguez (high jump, 5-8) also came away with victories for the Knights.
Xavier had strong performances from Jace MacConnell in the 100 (10.81) and 200 (22.55), and from Chandler Barbato in the long jump (20-3) and triple jump (42-2).
Shadow Hills finishes 4-3 overall, 4-2 in its first season in the DVL.
Palm Springs 90, Palm Desert 37: The Indians improved to 6-0 heading into the final week of the Desert Valley League season with the victory over Palm Desert.
Winners for Palm Springs were Kiviok Hight (1600, 4:48.00 and 800, 2:09.58), Andrew Clark (110 hurdles, 15.44 and 300 hurdles, 42.91 and triple jump, 41-7), Cole Cruz (400, 52.43), Isaiah Scott (100, 11.03 and 200, 22.37 and long jump, 21.4), Damion Loman (high jump, 5-6), Austin Brown (discus, 125-8) and the 4×100 relay (42.64, Cruz, Clark, Scott, Damion Lee).
Justin Kantowski took first for Palm Desert in the shot (44-1) and second in the discus (119-3).
La Quinta 66, Indio 61: The Blackhawks improved to 4-1 in the Desert Valley League with a tight 66-61 over Indio Thursday.
Track winners for La Quinta were the 4×100 meters team in 44.69 (George Zendejas, Juan Ruiz, Adam Kasten, Gerry Salazar), Jacob Quattlebaum in the 110 hurdles (16.49), Zendejas in the 100 meters (11.43) and Adam Kasten in the 2300 hurdles (41.46).
In the field events, winners for La Quinta were Kasten in the long jump (20-6 ½), Andres Sanchez in the triple jump (10- I 1/2), Anthony Luna in the discus (124-4) and Rolando Maldanado in the high jump (5-4).
Xavier 187, Rancho Mirage 243: In a non-league contest at the Gary Player Course at Westin Mission Hills Resort in Rancho Mirage, Caesar Cheng of Xavier Prep fired a 6-under 30 to lead the Saints to the victory.
Cheng’s 30 is one shot off the Desert Valley League boys record for nine holes of 29, set by three players.
Jay Chang shot 36, DeLong Tan shot 39 and Lloyd Deklotz shot 38 for the Saints.
Benny Leung led Rancho Mirage with a 38, followed by Brandon Gonzalez with a 47, Marcus Lopez at 50, Oliver Maloney at 52 and Marcus Mann at 56.
