PERKINSTON, MS (WLOX) -

Stacy Malone has been the assistant girls basketball coach at Oxford High School since 2010.  On Monday MGCCC women’s basketball coach Hope Adams announced that Malone is the new Lady Bulldogs assistant coach.

Malone said, “I knew the program was on its way to something great.  I just wanted to be part of the greatness that MGCCC basketball is embracing.”

Malone and Gulf Coast Coach Hope Adams worked together at Oxford High School.

“Knowing Coach Hope, she’s very approachable and has great understanding with the girls, “said Malone.  “She’s got great vision for the women’s basketball program, and that made my decision that much easier.”

Malone was part of a Oxford program that compiled an impressive 138-38 record, winning the Class 5A state championship in 2012, a season that ended up with an undefeated 33-0 record.  Every season Oxford advanced to the North State playoffs.

Malone played her college basketball at Delta State and was named Gulf South Conference Player of the Year, and was a two-time All-American.  She’s also a member of that conference’s Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame and was named to the Delta State Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014.

She played for the Lady Statesmen from 1994-1997 and still holds the school’s highest single-season field-goal percentage (.698, 1996-97).  Malone ranks fifth with 1,886 career points.

Coach Adams said, “She has a great personality on top of experience.  You add some wisdom with my youthfulness and there’s good chemistry.  We balance each other out really, really well.  Her basketball experience really brings something to the program.  When you’re on recruiting trips visiting with parents, she has kids the same age as theirs.  That makes them feel safe giving us their kids.”

Malone has three daughters: Alexus, 22, who played at Louisiana Tech; Kyla, 19, who plays at Pearl River Community College: and Katelyn, 14.
